I could write a book on why custom cabinets are better than stock cabinets, but for the sake of boring you, I will keep this blog post simple and concise.

• Stock Cabinet sizing. Stock cabinets are mass produced and thus have many limitations because of production demands.  They come in 3 inch increments in height, depth, and width and consequently do not fit space perfectly.  One thing you will notice on stock cabinet installations is the fillers that are necessary to fill the gaps.  Custom doesn’t have these limitations.
• Stock Cabinet materials. Most stock cabinets are built with particle board or MDF products.  There are multiple reasons why this is inferior, but one of the primary reasons is water.  “Wood Products” come apart when exposed to moisture.  They also grow and hold mold.  Because custom cabinets use wood, they do not have the same limitations or failures.
• Stock Cabinet structure. Again, most stock cabinets are built with inferior materials and with weak backs which makes them inferior integrity wise.  We often see stock cabinets pulling away from the wall or sagging in areas.  Because custom cabinets are built with wood and have a structurally sound back, they are capable of far more limitations than stock.
• Stock Cabinets greatly limit design ideas. Because of the sizing demands of well thought out kitchen designs, great limitations are placed on the designer when stock cabinets are used.  You can only get what is available, and what is available is insufficient for a great kitchen.  Custom cabinetry makes designing unlimited.
• Hard areas. There are some areas where stock cabinets will simply not work.  Custom cabinets can go into any area where it is feasible to do so.
• Space utilization. This is big.  Stock cabinets are greatly limited when it comes to the maximization of utilitarian spaces.  Because of an unlimited array of options, Custom cabinets maximize everything and makes your space design totally efficient.
• Stock Cabinets are mass produced and have inferior finishes as a result.  In the mass production, fast drying finishes are necessary to meet production demands.  Most are done with lasquer.  Lacquer is a pretty finish, but it is inferior if water ever gets to the finish.  It will not hold up and it will not touch up.  It is also weaker in other ways.  CM finishes are not done with lacquer.  They are accomplished with the highest quality primers and finishes on the market.  Because CM has a 5 year warranty on everything we do, we cannot have compromised finishes.

• End panels. Most stock cabinets do not finish the ends of the cabinets or the backs of islands.  The ones that do are simply doors that are applied to the sides.  Custom cabinets from CM finish all ends with the highest quality wood panels to meet the style of your cabinetry.  It’s the finishing touches that make for maximum beauty.
